Long Lower Lip

Here’s a Western Scrub Jay perched on a post at the Ridgefield NWR on Sep. 28, 2011.  Notice
the bird’s elongated lower mandible (bill).  He appears to otherwise, be very healthy and seems to have figured out a way to survive with this interesting problem.
Taken with my Canon 7D, 1/1600, f5.6, ISO640, Canon 400mm f5.6L lens.

    1. Jen, I thought it might be a stick in its mouth too, at first. But I’ve looked at other frames I took of different poses and it does not appear to be a stick. I posted a different, more close up view, in my Flickr stream in the comments if you want to check it out. As I mentioned in the blog post I just put up, this bird was at the refuge side of the entry bridge.
