This Red-tailed Hawk, with its wings in a horizontal position, nearly took up the whole frame of this Canon 7D Mark II image. During processing, the bird’s eyes caught my attention and I decided to crop out about half the wings to accentuate the amazing eyes on this creature. The bird was chasing (in flight) a Great Egret that had a vole in its bill. The egret landed about 200 feet from me and the hawk gave up trying to steal the catch. Then the hawk did a wonderful thing by doing a U-turn and flying right toward me. The 7D Mark II, at 10 frames per second, sounded like a machine gun right about then–spray and pray they sometimes say!
