This is a shot from back on Dec. 9, 2013, taken at the Ridgefield NWR. The bird was a long way off and the image is a heavy crop but I really like this pose. Some studies say that only 1 in 10 Bald Eagles survive to adulthood, and most succumb to the elements or starvation in the first six months of life. Even with these statistics, Bald Eagles have made a great comeback! Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, f5.6, ISO 2000, 700mm (500 + 1.4x).
