If you are a reader of my blog you may know that I recently picked up a Canon 24-105mm f4L lens. While it isn’t an ultra-wide lens, on my full frame body it does a nice job at 24mm. While I was at the refuge on Dec. 5 of last year, I brought the lens along on a shoot and was blessed with some great filtered light as well as nice blue sky and great cloud formations. I drove the auto tour and stopped occasionally to take some shots of the refuge itself. Here’s a portrait oriented image of a waterway between markers 8 & 9. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/250, f13, ISO 800, 24 mm, Canon 24-105mm f4L lens.

Congratulations for getting the Canon 24-105mm lens. It’s a very good and versatile lens – you will enjoy it. I don’t use mine very much because I usually have a super-telephoto lens on one of my cameras shooting birds, but when needed it’s excellent, especially on the EOS 5D Mark III.
Thanks, Edwin! I am really liking the 24-105. It’s even making me think about getting into landscapes a little more and learn something about them. My main use for the lens is to take shots at family events and birthday parties–that sort of thing. I like the reach it has. It’s not on my camera very much either–at least not yet.
Oh, by the way, you posted a very good photo of the refuge.
Thanks so much, Edwin. I don’t know how many landscape photography rules I broke with the image but I thought it came out okay. I got a nice response on FB but I’m wondering if it’s just because people are so surprised I posted something besides a bird!
