Early morning, still pretty dark, Ridgefield NWR, Dec. 7, 2014. Cranked the ISO up on this one and it unfortunately shows by the noise that is visible. But I like her expression as she chomps on some grass.
This doe is one of the most common to be seen at the refuge since it was transplanted from a refuge further north. She’s now usually seen with a couple of youngsters who aren’t so little anymore. A week ago I saw the three by the Kiwa Trail gate, where the mom and one kid were on the far side of the gate and the other kid was on the near side. I have no idea how they got separated but the mom was quite distressed by its behavior as she was wanting the little one to jump through the slats in the fence so they’d all be together. I left the scene after taking some shots and I assume they were all reunited at some point.
