Wing and foot stretch

This almost grown Bald Eagle was perched on a branch in the Ash Tree forest of the Ridgefield NWR, April 4, 2017.  Here the bird is stretching its wing and foot.  It’s within a year of becoming a fully matured Bald Eagle.  I love seeing these birds make it to adults! Can ... Continue Reading

Playing in the Marsh

Ridgefield NWR, March 23, 2017.  I spent about 15 minutes watching this immature Bald Eagle out in the marsh nearly 300 feet, appearing to be playing with a stick it had found on the wooden perch you see him standing on.  Repeatedly, the bird would grab the stick with one talon ... Not Much Left

A very nice day weather-wise at the Ridgefield NWR, March 10, 2017.  Most eagles wouldn’t come close but there was a mature and immature Bald Eagle hanging out in the Ash tree forest.  Here, the mature bird brought its catch to one of the Ash trees and was finishing it of ... Continue Reading

Showing Off

I watched a pair of Bald Eagles March 1, 2017, at the Ridgefield NWR and after a while they provided a little flight action.  This one did a nice fly-by for me. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1600, f4, ISO 800, 500mm, 3:23 p.m. Continue Reading

Solo Flight

Here’s a February 13, 2017 image of a mature Bald Eagle in Flight.  A lot less eagles today than on my last few visits. This was one of a pair that flew relatively close. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/1600, f4, ISO 125, 500mm, 1:46 p.m. Continue Reading

Curious Bird

Jan. 24, 2017, at the Ridgefield NWR, I came across this Bald Eagle who was wondering about my lens, I guess.  I really liked the eye contact in this shot. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, f4, ISO 2000, 500mm, 9:08 a.m. Continue Reading

Sharing a branch

January 30, 2017, at the Ridgefield NWR, a nesting pair of Bald Eagles share a perch.  The top-most bird is the male and the lower bird the female. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, f4, ISO 2500, 500mm, 12:19 p.m. Continue Reading

Changing Places

I parked at Rest Lake on the Ridgefield NWR, Jan. 24, 2017, to watch a young Bald Eagle as it was standing on the ice-covered water.  Pretty soon the eagle on the left swoops down to flush the innocent ice dweller.  The ‘bully’ eagle could have landed anywhere on th ... Continue Reading
