May 17, 2011 – Tue. – Ridgefield NWR – Part Four of 4

Here is the final (4th) part to my May 17, 2011, photo shoot at Ridgefield NWR.  There are seven shots left to show you and they all have major green coloring, which is really just coincidence.  The images I post are usually displayed in the order I took them.

As I was driving past the Kiwa Trail entrance, I spotted a Raccoon on the road ahead of me.  He decided to turn back into the grass rather than cross the road.

As I drove through the woods and on to post #11, I see a family of Canada Geese in the water to my right.  This first shot is of two of the five goslings in the grass on the far end of the lake.

Then, one of the goslings entered the water and began to feed from the water.

All of a sudden, a Nutria appeared to approach the water from the far side of the lake and this set off the parent goose.  Its wings began flapping and it made very loud vocalizations as it stuck its tongue out.  I’m not sure if this behavior was to attempt to scare the Nutria away or to warn the goslings of danger.

Here is the family after they calmed back down again.

And lastly, we have a handsome Cinnamon Teal setting himself off against the green reflected in the water.  This was taken in the canal between posts 12&13.

That completes the May 17 trip at Ridgefield.  My next photo shoot will be at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland, Oregon.  Stay tuned as I believe I got a couple of lifers on this trip.  Thanks for reading The Blog!
