Mt. Tabor Park – Portland, OR, May 31 & Jun 1, 2011

Posted in

Because of its close proximity to my house, I went back to Mt. Tabor Park a couple more times.  Picture this park as a heavily wooded area where sunlight peaks through in only certain places and the rest is very dark shade.  This makes well lit shots difficult and usually requires flash.  So, while I really like this park, there are drawbacks to it for bird photography.  On top of this, these two days were both showery where the sun would pop out about every half hour.  I know… a lot of lame excuses for only producing 6 so-so shots over these two days!  It was a tough couple of days, for sure!

Here are the shots that made the “cut” although I’m not overly excited about any of them.  But it was neat to get an addition to my life list – the Wilson’s Warbler!

A Black-capped Chickadee

A Dark-eyed Junco

A Song Sparrow profile.

And here’s my lifer — the Wilson’s Warbler.

This is now June, so I think we’re into mosquito season at Ridgefield NWR.  I’m hoping to get back there soon and I’ll likely be testing out the new bug shirt I got.  I’ll let you know how it worked!

Oh! Before I go, I wanted to make this video of the Olive-sided Flycatcher available, which I posted photos of in the blog post prior to this one (taken at Mt. Tabor Park).

See you next time on The Blog!
