While ‘shooting’ an eagle at the Ridgefield NWR on Jan. 30, 2015, this Belted Kingfisher, vocalizing all the while, landed on a clear perch although at quite a distance.  Wished I’d been 50 feet closer but we take what we can get!

    1. Thank you, Carolyn! I was just past marker #11 looking south toward the big tall tree with an eagle in it, and the Kingfisher landed on that branchy tree/bush, probably 100 feet off the road.where sometimes you’ll see hawks. Too far for this small bird but I was surprised that there was still some detail after a heavy crop. Probably wouldn’t have posted it had the background not been good.
