“Itchin’ Feels Good!”

An image from August of 2016, this Green Heron has the oddest expression while itching.  Taken at Ridgefield NWR. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/1250, f4, ISO 320, 500mm, 11:20 a.m. Continue Reading

Things are looking up!

A Green Heron I spent a lot of time with back on Aug. 4, 2016, at Ridgefield, Wa.  Lots of interesting poses from this bird.  Not sure if it’s just stretching or actually following something it has spotted in the sky. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/1250, f4, ISO 320, 500mm, 11:07 a. ... Continue Reading

Green on Green

August 4, 2016, at the Ridgefield NWR, a Green Heron posed for me and let me take almost 700 shots.  It was hard to pick a pose for today’s image and I’ll probably be sharing a few more in the near future. LARGEVIEW! Canon 7D Mark II, 1/1250, f4, ISO 320, 500mm, 11:2 ... Continue Reading

Broken-billed Green Heron with tongue

Through the viewfinder I did not notice that this Green Heron had a bill with a broken tip.  The injury apparently does not hinder the bird’s ability to hunt as it looks quite healthy.  The tongue action is something I did intentionally capture.   Taken Sep. 8, 2014, at ... Continue Reading

Green Heron Portrait

I was excited to spot this pretty, young Green Heron at the Ridgefield NWR, Sep. 8, 2014.  These birds are sometimes known to hunt by luring in fish by using items such as insects, dropping the bait within the heron’s striking distance.   Canon 5D Mark III, 1/640, f4, ISO ... Continue Reading

Sep. 26, 2013 – Ridgefield NWR – 8 Im ...

Sep. 26 was another early fall day at the Ridgefield NWR, where the wildlife activity was much below what I would prefer.  But when I limit myself to shooting wildlife in their natural wildlife settings and habitats, I know to expect these kinds of days especially at this time o ... More Summer Shots: July 19 & Aug. 1, 2012 ...

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, my intentions were to post a “marathon” session of photos to get my posting caught up to the current date.  That didn’t work out so well, so I am now thinking I will begin posting my current day’s shoot relatively ... Continue Reading

Green Heron Stretch

This Green Heron did a unique stretch during my 90 minutes of watching it.  Taken with a Canon 40D, 1/200, f6.3, ISO500, Canon 400mm f5.6L lens, Sep. 7, 2010, at Ridgefield NWR. Continue Reading
