See the frog in this photo?

This is probably the most surprising image I have taken in my almost 11-year run as a bird photographer.  Dec. 23, 2009, at the Ridgefield NWR, I remember it clearly.  I had only been shooting birds for a year or so and was excited to see this Downy Woodpecker just outside my t ... An August 11 Bird

Taken exactly 3 years ago today, Aug. 11, 2015, at the Ridgefield NWR.  The female Common Yellowthroat, for me, has been typically harder to find and shoot than the males. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/1000, f4.5, ISO 320, 500mm, 7:48 a.m. Continue Reading

Rodent and Harrier

A never before posted picture I took in July 2015, at the Ridgefield NWR.  A Northern Harrier heads for a spot where she can eat her latest catch. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/2000, f5.6, ISO 500, 700mm Continue Reading

Eagle Skirmish from the past

It looked like mom & dad were trying to teach this young one a lesson when I caught these Bald Eagles having a family quarrel at the Ridgefield NWR back in December of 2014. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, ISO 1600, 500mm, 9:25 a.m. Continue Reading

River Otter

I’m going way back to August 2008, for this shot of a River Otter with catch.  I captured this shot with my first DSLR, the Canon Rebel XT at the Ridgefield NWR.  I recall it being difficult to find the camera in the black color but I did.  The lens was the Canon 100-400 ... Continue Reading

Cute Face

I was visiting the Ridgefield NWR on June 11, 2018, and came across this American Bittern that could have used an attitude adjustment.  This is a classic bittern posture that helps the bird blend in with long grass. Canon 7D Mark II, 1/2000, f4, ISO 320, 500mm, 3:09 p.m. Continue Reading
