River Otter

I’m going way back to August 2008, for this shot of a River Otter with catch.  I captured this shot with my first DSLR, the Canon Rebel XT at the Ridgefield NWR.  I recall it being difficult to find the camera in the black color but I did.  The lens was the Canon 100-400 ... Continue Reading

Cute little otter

A lone otter spotted at the Ridgefield NWR, March 30, 2018.  It wasn’t really acting mean but had just came onto shore and was shaking the water off.  The ducks and the geese nearby were all out of the water quacking and honking asking the otter nicely, to please leave. C ... Continue Reading

McFish for Lunch

A River Otter chews on his lunch the afternoon of Nov. 25, 2016, at the Ridgefield NWR.  A companion otter was just up the bank of the river scratching its back in the supine position. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, f4, ISO 2000, 500mm, 12:08 p.m. Continue Reading

“A little tough for me!”

This River Otter did actually drop the fish and swim to shore.  It apparently wasn’t really hungry–just giving the fish a little scare.   Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1000, f4, ISO 1000, 500mm, 7:31 a.m. Continue Reading

Here’s a quick look at some Ridgefield NWR images I took on Dec. 5, 2013.  A cold icy day for the wildlife.  The refuge is a wondrous place to go on days like this. First up I came across a frosty Great Blue Heron for which I have a whole lot of respect.  His feet are in ... Continue Reading

“Fish Chomper”

A shot of a River Otter at the Ridgefield NWR on Dec. 26– a very foggy day.   Just wish he’d had a fish in his mouth!    Canon 5D Mark III, 1/800, f4, ISO 2500, 500mm. Continue Reading

Continuing now with some more wildlife shots taken at Ridgefield on Sep. 9, 2013.  Had a decent day as far as variety goes but no lifers.  I took some shots with the 500 alone and some shots coupled with the 1.4x III extender. Let’s start off with a Great Egret that just ... Continue Reading

Returning now with some images from Aug. 27, 2013, taken at the Ridgefield NWR in Washington state.  The weather was somewhat cloudy but warm. I’m starting off today with a River Otter that I spotted about 50 feet from the road.  It was busy swimming around, obviously hun ... Continue Reading

May 9, 2013 – Ridgefield NWR – 43 New ...

In my previous posting (May 1), I went out to my local refuge and shot the 1.4x II extender attached to my Canon 400mm f5.6L lens.  Today I took off the extender and used the bare 400mm f5.6L lens, which is my typical set up.  I’ll give the 1.4x III a try next time. It wa ... Continue Reading
