This American Kestrel hovered right above the road up about 50 feet at the Ridgefield NWR, Dec. 6, 2016. Typically, they’ll hover in position for 15-20 seconds and either dive for a catch or move on to another position. This guy stuck around for at least 30 seconds, giving me lots of shots, and making it harder to pick the best pose. I liked this one because both the top of one wing and the bottom of another are visible and he appears to be making eye contact.
