Here’s a shot of a lifer for me–the Varied Thrush. It’s body shape and size are almost exactly that of the common American Robin. In all the years I’ve been visiting the Ridgefield NWR, I have never seen a Varied Thrush, although I know they are around. This image was taken in a Portland, Oregon backyard, Jan. 22, 2013. Canon 5D MarkIII, 1/1000, f5.6, ISO 3200, Canon 400mm f5.6L lens.

One of my favorites. They frequent my backyard in SW Portland.
Thanks for visiting, Michael. It’s a little ironic that I spend so much time ‘out in the wild’ looking for these birds when I’m probably more likely to find a lot of them in backyards. Thie Varied Thrush was just one of the many birds that came to the feeders when I was at this backyard awaiting the Ovenbird to show up. Not my typical day of shooting but I’m okay with it on an occasional basis.
I want to let you know your images are a great inspiration to me. Also, your technical information is a big help as I like to photograph wildlife also.
