Three or four Sandhill Cranes flew almost right over my head as I was facing the sun. I’m always amazed with the distance the call of these birds carries. This small group of cranes was a couple thousand feet away when I first heard them and I initially thought they were nearly overhead from the loud sound they made. I then spotted them flying in the far distance. It’s nice because it gives us photogs a little notice before they get close. Taken Sep. 8, 2015, at the Ridgefield NWR, Wa.
