It was a smoky day at the Ridgefield NWR, August 7, 2017. We’ve had a stretch of heat here in the Pacific Northwest that has trapped the smoke from wildfires burning as far north as British Columbia. The background of today’s Great Blue Heron shot would have normally been a lot bluer, as there weren’t many clouds in the sky today. The smoke acted like a light diffuser. I got a little late evening sun on this heron as it flew by.
