This is one of those “too far away” shots that I got at the Ridgefield NWR on Aug. 26, 2015. When a Kingfisher lands on a reasonably unobstructed perch with a decent background I can’t just not take pictures of the bird because she’s 100+ feet away and I have only the bare 500mm on my camera. I’m thinking this bird is fairly young and as I was shooting, she just flapped her wings open — how could I resist? There’s not many pixels on this image due to a heavy crop so I decided against offering a link for a large view. It looks better as a small image.
