Hover Hawk

Every once in a while I spot a Red-tailed Hawk that seems to have read the play book of the American Kestrel.  When the wind is right, these hawks will sometimes emulate the kestrel’s hunting methodology–hovering, looking, then diving.  This particular bird was doing this all day on Nov. 18, 2014, at the Ridgefield NWR.     Canon 5D Mark III, 1/2000, f4, ISO 1000, 500mm, 11:29 a.m.
