The Carty Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is located just north of Ridgefield, WA, where there is a hiking trail over various terrain.  This is where I took this photo in March of 2010, not far from the entrance of the trail.  I recall hearing Towhee’s rustling in the sticker bushes as they hopped through the underbrush.  I waited a while for this female to pop up out of the brush.  EOS 40D, 1/250, f7.1, 400mm, ISO500, flash w/ -1 comp.  Taken using a monopod and possibly Ibird on my Ipod to get the bird’s attention.
