Rough-legged Hawk

Rough-legged Hawk

The winter of 2007 – 2008 was RLH-lovers heaven at the Ridgefield NWR. It was a common occurrence to drive up to a refuge sign with a Rough-legged Hawk perched on it — and the hawk would not fly. This happened several times for me during this time period–but never since. This is a full frame shot at 500mm, using my old Rebel XT and a Sigma Bigma, 1/320, f7.1, ISO400. One of my favorite hawks!  Date: January 7, 2008.

    Hi Dennis,

Have you seen any Rough Legged Hawks at all up there lately? Great capture by the way!
    Thanks in advance!

Hi DeeDee, my last shot of a Rough-Legged was back in Jan 2017 at Ridgefield. I haven’t spotted one since but that certainly doesn’t mean they aren’t there! Always a neat raptor to see! Thanks for your comment and question!
