For the last few weeks I’ve been having fairly good luck catching some flight shots by just standing by my truck parked on the refuge road between two marshy areas. Herons, Bitterns, ducks, and Harriers are just some of the shots I’ve gotten at this location. Before the sun got too high in the sky I tried this again Sep. 26, 2015, at the Ridgefield NWR. This American Bittern gave me a very nice fly-by opportunity on this early fall morning. I love this time from now through the winter as the sun stays relatively low in the skies making for better lit opportunities–all day long.
