Jan. 15, 2016, was a showery winter day at the Ridgefield NWR. That morning I came upon a nice group of Sandhill Cranes slightly closer than usual. Although great lighting wasn’t on my side, I put on my 2x converter and dialed in a higher ISO setting than I would normally do. These birds would occasionally do their behavioral dances and that is what this one was doing. The trick was to point and focus the lens on the bird in the group that was going to dance next.
