I found a spot at the Ridgefield NWR today, Aug. 20, 2015, where I saw at least 3 American Bitterns, at least a couple of which were juveniles. They were in their familiar grassy habitat with shallow, muddy water. The one pictured caught at least 4 tadpoles in less than 30 minutes, but it never came out into the open. I tried to find a frame that was sharp, where the eye was not obstructed, and the bill and prey are mostly visible.
