I had quite a photo session with a Belted Kingfisher, April 8, 2016, at Ridgefield, Wa., with over 250 images taken over a 24 minute period. This male bird was hunting the slough between markers #2 and #3 from 25-30 feet up in a tree not far from the road. Each time the bird made a successful dive it would fly back up to the tree but land on an interior branch where I couldn’t see him eat the fish. Then it would fly back out to the perimeter of the tree to try again. The kingfisher didn’t seem to mind me making minor adjustments in the location of my truck for the best light as it perched on different branches.
