This shot was taken in December of 2008 at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. This was one of those magic years when at least this Rough-legged Hawk would perch on the refuge signs and allow you to drive right up next to them. This bird was within 8 feet of my vehicle. I was using the Canon XT body with the Canon 100-400mm f5.6L lens. He flew off shortly after this shot as I’m sure he thought I was crowding him. He made that clear, vocally! 1/400, f7.1, 400mm, -1/3EV.
