During my shoot at the Ridgefield NWR on Aug. 4, 2016, I came across this shorebird in the water, in the woods, which for me is an odd place to find this bird. Normally our shorebird friends are out in the marshy, shallow water areas of the refuge. I’m thinking this bird is a Spotted Sandpiper and it was foraging on the muddy banks of a creek smack dab in the dark area of the Ash tree forest. Luckily, a ray of early morning sun made its way in to light up the bird and even cast its shadow on the bank.
