The Gray Ghost

Over the years, I have found that spotting a male Northern Harrier at the refuge is many times more less likely than spotting a female of the species.  Plus, harriers just seem to be very skittish birds–much more so than say, Red-tailed Hawks (generally speaking).  So, with these odds against me, I was quite thrilled to get this shot of the “Gray Ghost” taking off from the ground.  I took this frame in November 2009.
