This is a close up shot of the Pileated Woodpecker I spotted on May 31, 2013, at the Ridgefield NWR. He leaned a little to the right of the snag he was pecking on, leaving just white sky as the background. I typically prefer some color in the background but here the white sky seems to set off the bird’s colors nicely. I was 20-25 feet from the bird, Canon 5D Mark III, 1/4000, f6.3, ISO 2500, Canon 400mm f5.6L lens.
