I came across this American Bittern at the Ridgefield NWR on Apr. 1, 2011. It had already been working on this snake, which had tied its tail around a weed at some point before the snake lost consciousness. By the time I arrived and began shooting this video, the snake was barely moving. But it had miraculously tied its tail onto a branch. If you don’t have time to watch all 9 minutes, skip ahead and check out the last minute or so. But if you have time, it’s fun to watch the effort expended by this bird.
There is no free lunch!
