A nice end to my day at the Ridgefield NWR, Oct. 28, 2016, was this female Belted Kingfisher, which allowed me about 4 minutes of shooting as it repeatedly landed on this perch, dove into the slough, and brought its catch back to the same branch. I didn’t get any shots of the bird with its catch as it would always return to the branch with its back to me, swallow the prey, and turn back around to this position to eye its next victim swimming about 12 feet below.
