On July 3, 2015, I shot and posted an image of a male Northern Harrier with its catch. The above shot is of that same harrier launching from a post (lower left in photo) about 500 feet from my road location. Both images were taken from that same location. This launch shot was snapped about a half hour prior to the bird’s displaying of the captured rodent. The image above is meant to depict a glimpse into the life of a lone raptor, on a warm day, out in the middle of a huge field, and overgrown with tall grass and teasel. Thirty minutes after launch… he has his meal. So much fun to watch and even more satisfying to photograph!
