Looking back to a September 8, 2014, shot in the woods at the Ridgefield NWR, a female Belted Kingfisher gives me about a second to shoot her portrait from across the water. Most of the time, Kingfishers are very skittish and fly way before you get near them, but there are rare exceptions to this rule. I was fortunate to get a quick shot of this pretty lady. Canon 5D Mark III, 1/1250, f4, ISO 640, 500mm, 10:53 a.m.
